Green Roof Researchers Alliance
Studying green roofs and promoting their expansion, the Green Roof Researchers Alliance (GRRA) is a consortium of over 60 researchers, educators, and policymakers from 21 different institutions. Founded in 2017, it is coordinated by NYC Audubon with funding from The New York Community Trust.
The GRRA facilitates collaboration among researchers studying the environmental benefits of green roofs, developing policy, creating curriculum, and working to advance green roofs in NYC in order to improve sustainability, resilience, biodiversity, and equitable access to urban nature.
Through mapping, environmental data collection and analysis of biological monitoring, the GRRA has created a centralized hub of NYC green roof information.
Green Roofs NYC is a resource to inform residents, developers, and business owners about the benefits of green roofs and connect them with green roof resources, including policy, finance options, and educational curriculum.
Green Roofs NYC was developed in 2018 by New School students who saw a need to amalgamate various resources and research on the current state of green roofs in the city. Working with the Green Roof Researchers Alliance, funded by a grant from The New York Community Trust, GreenRoofsNYC.com is a clearinghouse of accurate, up-to-date information on green roofs in the city. Website content is contributed by the Green Roof Researchers Alliance, The New School, and the Urban Systems Lab. Green Roofs NYC is maintained by Stephanie Kale.
